The small web (draft)

I am quite interested in what is often called "the small web".

I would like to use this space as some kind of experimentation platform.

Small web initiatives appear on different corners of the web with for example the whole tildeverse of which this page is part of.

It can be sometimes hard to follow since people, individuals and projects are a bit scattered on the web and even outside of the web if we consider the gemini protocol.

Below are some random projects that I am aware of.

The Indieweb represents an attempt to standardize things. -> https://indieweb.org

I think I'll probably try to implement some Indieweb things here when I get some time (maybe webmentions, or html microformats).

Concerning gemini I still haven't decided what to do. Maybe I'll try to publish this space as a gemini capsule too, I'm not sure yet.

I have the feeling that the goal of gemini could just be obtained by visiting only less bloated websites and focusing on blogs and RSS feeds instead of more modern approaches. For the moment I'm not totally convinced this is the approach I want to follow so I'll keep this web space.

The SmolNet Portal is a proxy that allows everyone to explore the gemini, gopher, spartan, etc... protocols through http using a regular web browser. -> https://portal.mozz.us

There are also search engines that claim to allow you to browse the non-commercial web, like for example the Marginalia search engine -> https://search.marginalia.nu or the kagi search engine https://kagi.com.

If you have interesting initiatives to share do not hesitate to contact me.
